Born on the 25th of July, 1960 in Lahore, Mian Amer Mehmood is the first Nazim of the City District Government Lahore. After having done his M.B.A from the Punjab University, he chose education for a career and launched the famous Punjab Group of Colleges in 1985 that culminated into the University of Central Punjab and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi. This is one of the greatest success stories when it comes to higher education in private sector.
With a recipe of reforms and a charter of change in his mind, he set his foot on the sloppy soil of politics at a grass roots level by contesting and winning his first ever election as councilor in 1987. He repeated the same in 1991 but this time only to bag a record breaking margin of lead in the history of our Local Bodies.
The year 2001 marked the beginning of a new era in government and politics of Pakistan. The long-awaited devolution of powers was implemented at last. President Pervez Musharraf made history by doing the impossible. The author contested for the District Nazim. Facing the powerful cluster of opposition comprising PPP, Nawaz League and Jamat-e-Islamia etc. was a bold step.
However, a strong support of the then newly organized PML(Q) as well as the personality factor helped him make his way to the City Hall. ?The never-ending journey? is a brief account of his four?years experience at the City District Government.
Although he as primarily focused the peace and the progress and development of Lahore, but has also predicted the glorious future of Pakistan.
