Introduction:

VISION:

To enhance Agriculture Development by increasing per acre yield of various crops.

MISSION:

Improvement of Agricultural Production through bridging the gap between research and farmers.

The main scope of Agriculture Extension Department is to provide advisory services to farmers and to execute the agricultural policies of government up to grass root level for achieving the mentioned vision and mission

Functions:

  • To Disseminate recommended technologies to farmers through various extension techniques for per acre increase in yield.
  • To work as a bridge between farmers, researchers and government agencies for solution of problems as a part in policymaking process.
  • To Monitor supplies of farm inputs especially, fertilizer, irrigation, certified seed and pesticides.
  • To Establish complementary relationship with all the institutions and organizations contributing to the development of farming community.
  • To Enforce quality control mechanism for fertilizers and Pesticides.

Present Assignments:

Main Assignments Performed by the Agriculture (Extension) Department:

Assignments:

  • To conduct village level farmers training programs regarding major crops.
  • To distribute literature among farmers regarding advance production technology packages.
  • To provide advisory services/technical recommendations through farms visits and personal contacts.
  • To lay out demonstration plots for educating farmers through method demonstration techniques.
  • To integrate with research institutions and extending experimentations on farmers farms.
  • To conduct pest scouting of major crop, orchards and vegetables and appraised pest situation.
  • To give suitable plant protection recommendations.
  • To provide quality seed to farmers through seed grading.
  • To introduce IPM techniques and biological control methods of pests.
  • To maintain record regarding meteorological data and water supply position.
  • To guide and facilitate farmers regarding obtaining agricultural loans.
  • To impart local publicity regarding production technology packages through announcements, wall slogans and burjies.
  • To conduct survey of damages during natural calamities.

Standard Operating Procedures:

For conducting various extension activities in qualitative manner some standard operating procedures have been evolved. However these tasks as owing to informal education character tend to reasonable flexibility for better services with in reasonable limits.

1 Farmer Training Programs The activity is conducted in scheduled manner covering all villages of the District. Group meetings are conducted and production technology is provided to farmers, regarding specific crop for which training is scheduled. Literature pertaining to production technology package is provided to farmers.
2 Demonstration Blocks/Plots Informal education through demonstrational techniques is given to farmers regarding better crop production methods. A demonstration plot at each union council is laid out at farmers field under guidance of extension staff. Other farmers of the locality are persuaded to adopt this technology by demonstration and display of techniques.
3 Seed Grading This facility is provided at first come first serve basis to farmers. Beneficiary farmers make transportation of Seed grader. This service is provided at minimal charges @ Rs 1-/ per 40 kg of seed.
4 Advisory Services and Pest Scouting At Office, and on farm advisory services regarding plant protection, fertilization and better crop management is provided. Extension staff also conduct farm visits on requests. Field staff conducts Pest scouting and pest survey on critical stages of crop and in response to pest/disease infestation. Farmers are guided through local publicity and personal contacts.
5 Local Publicity Local publicity regarding production technology of major current crops is made through wall chalking, mottos and burjies. Plant protection measures and up to date seasonal changing information is provided to farmers through this method.
